From Tweets to Tweets: Nest Boxes and Burnout
Less than a month into the year and you're feeling burnout... There's a reason.
I’ve been in a deep state of burnout for the past 6 months. I’ve had to rest and that meant going offline - just for a bit - and getting outside. ✨
Having developed a chronic illness a few years ago I’ve had to forgo uncomfortably long hikes and find smaller, less taxing ways to reconnect with nature.
This week I celebrated National Bird Box Week (14th-21st). Horny birds are looking for cosy spots to bring up their soon-to-be-laid babies. 🐣 Habitats and nesting spots are dwindling and so are the birds in our green spaces. A simple way to remedy this is to get those bird boxes up!
🌳 In your gardens
🌳 Near your balconies
🌳 In your community
🌳 In your green workplace spaces
I now have a bird box at the end of my garden, half way up a tree. Every day I eagerly eye it up to see if any blue tits are scoping it out. Fingers crossed they’ll find it in the next few weeks. It doesn't take long, and afterward you can head back indoors for a cosy cuppa. Take time over the next few weeks to see if you can spot any birds scoping out your love nest.
January is long and February isn't the relief from winter that we want or need.
February is one of the hardest and coldest months of the year, giving with one hand - spring blooms🌸, longer days☀ - and taking with the other - freezing winds🌬, snow storms❄.
February is the month we're most likely to peek out the window and say... 'not today satan', before bundling further up in our layers and cosy blankey dens instead of stretching our legs and getting some air.
All this time inside makes room for more scrolling social media and less time switching off in nature.
We have to get outside.
Even just for 10 minutes to let our brains switch off.
